case study

From a Facebook ad with zero conversions to a system that explains what UpScale actually sells

UpScale Solutions had five active clients and real delivery capability. It had no repeatable way to say what it does. The engagement gave the founder one line and a priced product ladder. It gave him a positioning system his own market could react to.

client: UpScale Solutions

founder: David Cordover

engagement: positioning, offer and website

category: managed custom software, B2B

01 / the problem

"We couldn't explain our offering clearly enough."

David Cordover, on a Facebook ad that generated 30 interested prospects and zero conversions.

02 / where they were

Real delivery capability, no repeatable way to sell it

  • 5 active clients, all sourced through personal network and founder-to-founder trust
  • Custom builds billed on time and materials
  • No structured pipeline or repeatable sales process
  • Three active go-to-market angles competing on one homepage and one call to action
  • Prospects balked at a long build with no visible deliverable at the end of it

After: the live homepage UpScale launched.

03 / why this was happening

A translation problem, not a delivery problem

UpScale had built genuine delivery capability. It was a working engine that could build client systems. What it lacked was a way to explain and scope that capability for a buyer.

04 / what we built

What we built

offer design

Offer design

One line, field-tested live at real networking events: "We solve complex business problems. We provide you with mission critical systems."

product ladder

Product ladder

A priced ladder anchored on David's own delivery artefact and tested against a real client project. It starts with a free fit conversation.

positioning

Positioning

We confirmed the market category as "managed custom software." Then we sharpened the ICP.

ai context pack

AI context pack

Voice, buyer, offer and glossary files, written so UpScale's own Claude can load them. David used them to build the new site in days, and his marketing lead now has them.

website

Website

We drafted the website against UpScale's own style guide. UpScale gave our wireframes and the context pack to Claude and launched the result as its new site.

05 / the moment it shifted

David could finally say what UpScale sells

For weeks, David could explain the delivery but not the offer. The old homepage said "We do AI for your business, so you don't have to." Then a long run of analogies about ownership and upkeep landed. He put it plainly: the value is in a configured system, the same customisation without the maintenance overhead. The same idea now leads his new homepage.

06 / what was harder than expected

The ladder that looked locked early changed once buyers tested it

We made assumptions early and tested them in front of real buyers. Some of them changed.

The rework rebuilt the ladder around what buyers expect to spend. This is an iterative method. It is not a cookie cutter.

07 / what changed

Outcomes

first gate closed

UpScale's new website is live. It carries the category, the buyer profile and a free first conversation from this engagement.

live

second gate pending a 6-month check-in

The second gate opens at a 6-month check-in, once business closes that trace back to the work.

08 / in their words

David, in his own words

"Clearly articulating what we do is quite difficult on your own, because it's all very clear in your own head. To get a clear and succinct statement, you need someone from the outside world to extract and refine that information."

David Cordover, UpScale Solutions

09 / the pattern

Why this generalises

Early-stage founders often build genuine delivery capability. What they lack is a system for explaining it, and scoping it for a buyer. The gap isn't technical. It's a translation problem. What's clear in one person's head isn't yet something a buyer can act on.

04 / next step

Book a call to see if the same approach fits your pipeline.

Thirty minutes on where your sales motion stands today. If there's a fit, we scope from there. Every call is with me, Richard.
